Module 2: Railroad
Reportable Injury and Illness Summary (Continuation)
This module of the database contains
information provided by each railroad to the Federal Railroad Administration
on Form F 6180-55a. A railroad uses this form to report any event
connected with the operation of a railroad that results in one or more
of the following consequences:

Death of a person within 365 calendar days
of the accident/incident;

Injury to a person, other than a railroad
employee, that requires medical treatment;

Injury to a railroad employee that requires
medical treatment; results in restriction of work or motion for one or
more work days; the loss of one or more work days; termination of employment;
transfer to another job, or loss of consciousness.

Any occupational illness of a railroad
employee is reportable when it is diagnosed as being worked-related by
a physician or other qualified health care professional
EXCEPTIONS.
A railroad need not report the following:

Casualties at highway-rail crossing sites
that do not involve the presence or operation of on-track rail equipment,
or the presence of railroad employees engaged in the operation of a railroad;

Casualties in or about living quarters
that do not arise from the operation of a railroad.

Suicides, as determined by a coroner or
other public authority.

Attempted suicides.
The IGRS database contains the complete
29 fields of data on each of the 576,591 reportable injuries and illnesses
that occurred in the U.S. during the period 1983-2001.
