Abstract:
A simple and a more detailed mathematical model for the simulation of
train collisions are presented. The study presents considerable insight
as to the causes and consequences of train motions in impact. Comparison
of model predictions with two full scale train-to-train impact tests shows
good correlation. Methods for controlling train motion and kinetic
energy dissipation for the minimization of train collision induced damage
are suggested.
